1st quarter. 2nd quarter. 3d quarter. It's 19-3 USC. Michigan is trying to mount a drive.
Brent Musberger starts speculating about Carr's job security/pressure on him because he lost to Ohio State multiple times and 3 straight bowl losses.
The blame of course fell on the bloggers. Thanks guys. You make Bob Davies the voice of reason. He said he wasn't worried about the bloggers. It's losing the last two games of the season each time.
Crazy world.
7:47: Michigan getting close. 1st and ten from the 12 after the roughing the passer penalty. TD pass to Arrington.
Michigan goes for 2...
Hart gets it with a nice second effort.
19-11 USC. 13:25 left.
Crap. Bob Davies just announced "this is a chess game." Thanks for that insight.
7:50: Gables brings the ball out past the 25.
Booty out to Jarrett for 9 yards. Booty pursued and thrown out of bounds. Not necessarily thrown away, but too far along the sidelines. Booty keeps for the 1st on 3d and 1.
Harris wraps up Gable on the outlet pass for no gain. Michigan is definitely fired up following the score by their offense. Ball tipped on the line when Booty threw.
And just like that USC scores on a 62 yard strike to Dwayne Jarrett. Booty stood in there for the throw, got Jarrett in stride. Jarrett slowed down to taunt Barringer, who took a dive at Jarrett's legs in the endzone. Barringer got whistled for a late hit. Not sure about that call.
Geez another missed extrapoint.
25-11 USC. 11:18.
8:01: Michigan and Henne have to march right back starting from their 20. Tight End Ecker makes a catch for 5. Then hit him again for a big gain. Right in stride for 36 yards.
Hart runs for a couple, but he has been very quiet and it isn't clear how much of a factor he will be at this point.
Manningham in the middle is hit with a strike from Henne to the 20. Henne really likes to play from behind. Kind of reminds me of the Homer Simpson fantasy of being John Elway -- before Elway won a couple superbowls and had his reputation changed -- leading a comeback after the game was out of reach.
Screen to Hart loses 5 yards. There were no blockers in front of Hart. Arrington gets 4 yards back. 3d and 11.
Henne pressured threw it at the feet of Ecker.
Michigan goes for it, but the receiver was 5 yards short of the line. Turnover on downs to the Trojans with 8:02 left.
8:07: Pump fake hits Smith for 29 yards to the 40.
Bonnie Bernstein reports that Hart may have hurt his shoulder on the last series.
Jarrett catches the ball 20 yards down field. Then tweaks Barringer by handing him the ball as he gets up. Brent Musberger is pissed.
Wow. Booty is now playing toss and catch with the receivers. This time it's to Davis down to the 7. 2 plays, 78 yards.
And TD pass to Smith. Booty took a big lick as he delivered that one. A Malachi crunch.
The extrapoint is good -- finally.
32-11 USC. 6:52 left.
The Fiesta Bowl starts in 20 minutes.
8:15: Michigan starts around the 15.
Dwayne Jarrett has 11 catches, 205 yards and 2 TDs. Yeah, he's going pro.
Manningham for about 8 yards. 3d and 2. Mike Hart is now not on the field -- they say he's fine -- seems more likely that Michigan won't be running any longer.
Arrington catches the ball for the 1st down.
Now 3d and 10, as the Wolverines look completely demoralized. The receivers don't even look like they want to try and make the catches at this point. 4th and 10. Punt with 5:39 left.
USC takes over at their own 40.
8:19: It's reached the point where USC will finally try to run and waste clock.
Man, the whole ABC crew just keeps ripping on Keyshawn Johnson for saying Dwayne Jarrett isn't ready yet for the NFL. I think Musberger had it right on this one. He just doesn't want anyone else who could take away his job.
Michigan isn't even bothering to call timeout. Good for them. I appreciate letting the clock go.
8:25: Under 2 minutes at this point and the Michigan offense is just going through the motions.
Herbstreit is back to the bloggers going after Carr. Honestly, I haven't said a damn word.
Bob Davies said, "not so much the bloggers, Carr now has to spin the season because he lost the last two games." Crap. Davies is making sense and Herbstreit is babbling. This game needs to end so I can regain equilibrium.
8:28: By the way Breaston just scored with 1:09 left. Extrapoint is good. Does that even effect the over/under for this game?
32-18 USC.
The Fiesta Bowl hasn't started yet.
8:30: Onside kick... does not work.
I think Pete Carroll was dancing after his Gatorade bath. That or he was starting to shiver.
That does it.
USC wins. Time to go to the FIesta Bowl Liveblog.

Boy, let's give Michigan another chance to win a championship. I know! Let them play Duke! I guess that this will settle it. Michigan is not the #1 or #2 team. As much as all you experts talk about it. I am so sick and tired of hearing that whinning coach from Michigan. Maybe this will shut him up. So take Michigan on back to Anarbor, because they just got a butt kicking. Not a spanking but a kicking!

I am so disappointed in what is happening to the Wolverines right now. I am only one of several million "big time, die hard" Wolverine fans and to see them fall this way the last two games has made me angry, at who I don't know, but this is not the team that I have been watching all year. It seems that year after year we follow the pounding they give to the Big Ten (outside of 2005) then watch as they lose a bowl game. Do any of you out there feel as I do? Do you feel the disappointment and anger that I feel? Who do we blame it on...the players or the coaches? I don't know, but this game has really let me down. I love my Wolverines to the nth degree but I haven't been this "let down" in many years. Let me know how y'all feel about this, I can't be the only one feeling this bad. True to form though, I will be there for the Wolve's next year and every year to follow. GO WOLVERINES, WE LOVE YOU!!

Sorry, not to sound as a "whiner" but...congrats to USC...you came into this game much more prepared than the Wolve's and did a sound job of thrashing us. Good job and hellova game played by y'all. Hope to see you again next year. CONGRATS TO THE USC TROJANS!!

Let's put Lloyd in the studio with John Cooper. Two fo a kind. Of course they shouldn't be allowed to do the last two games of the season.

I cannot begin to even express my frustrations in words for how I feel. I am a die hard Michigan fan who lives, eats, and breathes Michigan Football and something here has to give. I am so tired of making excuses for Lloyd Carr and how we can't win the big one. You know what? We can't win the big one so let's not pretend that we can anymore. Under this regime of Carr we will never win the Big Game let alone any big game of magnatude because we are too complacent and predictable. We need to make a change and make one soon because we the fans who buy the tickets, the merchandise, and live and die with the team are sick and tired of LOSING to teams we should be THUMPING!!! DOES ANYONE ELSE FEEL THIS WAY? PLEASE FEEL FREE TO COMMENT!

JBOMB, all I can say about that post is..."shit to bed fred" you must not be much of a Wolverine fan to let that crap out. Even living in Columbus (I would assume you are referring to Ohio and not North Carolina, lol)...true Buckeye fans show respect to those Wolverine fans by giving them all that shit, that's what this rivalry is all about! It's a rivalry that will bring out the best in us and the worst in us but when the chips are down it doesn't matter what color you wear (see the clips of the Bo stories when he died and the articles when Woody died), it's the game itself...we are just a part of it. Whether we win or lose, God almighty I love it and I hope that you still find a way to remain a Wolverine fan. After this loss to USC (somebody wake me up, lol) I will be pulling for the Buckeyes to win the national championship....they are, after all, the BIG TEN CHAMPIONS!! Come on dude, lighten up...we will always be THE WOLVERINES, good times and bad!

i agree with brian...all i can remember is all the stupid bar bets i lost over the years because i was "110%positive" that michigan would win those last 2games of the year..they let the fans, the alumni, the students, and even the friggin BAND!!!...THE BAND PLAYS BETTER THAN THE TEAM!!!...i'm actually wondering if the rest of the big 10 is really that good if the wolves won every game but one, cause they looked like the worst kinda ass today...akron,dayton,i dont care, marshall, toledo, anyone i dont care,i'll never go scarlett and grey, but the maize and blue is in the trash...the bones of bo woulda coached a better game than this

I'm a die hard Michigan fan but i can't take this crap i have no degree in football but for the first half we did the same thing every offensive series. USC had an sgressive defense and we had nothing but long developing routes and no running offense. What happened to a 3 step drop and quick release to get the defensive pressure off the offense? It clear We were out Coached more than out talented. there is only one solution for that kind of problem. Our offense dictated the defense breakdown by giving USC more confidence with each series.

I'm a Michigan fan & I completely agree that Lloyd Carr needs to go and so does Chad Henne. Henne looks as bad as Zwick did for OSU. This is ridiculus! Carr should have put in his 2nd string QB after Henne was sacked for the 2nd time. He sucks!

Bo would of run down their throat up the middle. we can't put the ball in chad hands thinking he can we it for us. Why didn't they play grady where was he at. but anyway it was a alright season. go blue forever

I agree with several other posters in the disappointment in this much hyped Rose Bowl game. Kudos to USC for coming to play and finding ways to win. Unfortunately, Michigan could not do the same. They played a very uninspired football game today, as they usually do in bowl games.
My question is this, where does the fault truly lie? In the players? Well, somewhat. But I think most of the pressure, frustration and blame really has to fall on Coach Carr and his staff. Michigan was CLEARLY not ready to play and did not appear to take USC seriously at all. Where is the urgency and desire to win this big game? It sure wasn't in the play calling....which was simply awful.
Talent wise, Michigan easily matches up with USC. The big difference was Carroll and his staff's approach to win at all costs. The "Do whatever it takes to win this huge game and leaving everything on the field" approach was the difference.
How Michigan expected to stay in it trying to overly rely on the non-existent running game is beyond me. If it doesn't work, make adjustments and try something else instead continuing with what isn't working. They needed to rely more on Navarre, Manningham, Arrington and Breaston but instead they put the whole game on Mike Hart's sholders. How are you supposed to even have a running game if there is no threat of a passing game? Doesn't work (Coaching 101, right?)!
In other words, though I was previously a whole hearted Carr supporter, something has to change and it MUST begin with coaching staff, Carr included.

In the swamp we are celebrating the defeat of Lloyd Carr. His whinning has earned him the most dramatic performance in NCAA Football.
Alabama is also looking for a coach...but then again the SEC wouldn't have him either.
All the experts namely Doug Flute can shove their "baby girl goes whine" about the wolves "deserving" the #2 spot!
One word...playoffs!
Now the Gators can roll into Glendale with pride as they "EARNED" their way!
GO GATORS!!!!!!!!GATOR NATION!!!!!!!!!!!

Pete Carroll has taught his team to play football well but I guess it was too much to teach them a little class as well. Miami is the only team I've seen with worse sportsmanship (particularly no. 8).

Toughto speculate but with the lack of speed in the Big 11, it looks like SC could run the Buckholes out of the stadium. Too bad we will never know, NO PLAYOFFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
