Meanwhile, Florida sat at home, drank daiquiris, played X-Box, and watched football on television. I have no independent confirmation of this, but my sources say Urban Meyer gave his cat a bath and a pedicure. Huzzah, an inspired effort! For this, you shall catapult over Notre Dame in the rankings. Tennessee, Cal, and Texas all had frightening last-second victories against overmatched teams, and all of them stayed in their comfortable spots or moved up.
Charlie Weis doesn't get it.
"One of the teams (Tennessee) that jumped us had the same game that we had. They're down, they're playing at home and they win by a field goal," Weis said Tuesday. "Another team (Florida) that jumped us wasn't even playing. They were home eating cheeseburgers and they end up jumping us. That befuddles me."
...and later...
"Tell me how that works?" Weis said. "Maybe I'm just stupid. Tell me how that works?"
I can't, Charlie. It's the crazy machine's doing.

Both Tennessee and ND have 1 loss. Tennessee lost at home by 1 point, ND got killed by 26. Tennessee demolished a top ten Cal team, ND has beaten no one of quality. Tennessee has a tougher schedule than ND. ND has struggled against middling competition, needing miracles against MSU and UCLA. Maybe I'm stupid, but how could ND ever be ranked ahead of Tennessee.

Ok, that's Tennessee. Explain Cal and Texas. And, no, I'm not buying that Oklahoma is somehow way better than Georgia Tech.

In this week's BCS Standings Cal is a spot higher than Tennessee even though the Vols walloped Cal when the two met this season. Head to head matchups defy any polls and prove them merely opinions.

Coach Weis should also comment on the Jeff Sagarin Computer Rating...ND is # 19. They have played one team currently ranked in the Sagarin top 20 and lost badly. ND is a media favorite and is protected by their Independent status. If they were in the Big Ten they would be a middle of the pack team after getting pounded by Michigan and Ohio State yet Coach Weis thinks they are a team worthy of Top Ten Ranking...give me a break !

Hey charlie....the reason you dropped, and frankly, should drop more is you don't play but one or two strong teams. I'm supprised you aren't playing the Coast Guard or the little sisters of the poor.....it would give Brady more stats and N.D. more wins. Just play somebody.

Hey Guys everyone knows you can't say team A beat team B who beat team C so team A must beat team C. Fortunes have been lost that way. But if you must use that thinking DC Wolverine, it is easy to see how ND could be rated above Tenn---just have ND beat Air Force by more than one point. And James Smith, who plays all these tough teams. West Va. has yet to play a ranked team and they are # 3 beating up on jokes. Other than ND, Michigan will not play one other ranked team until OS. And even Ohio State played 3 of its first 6 games (N. Ill, Cincy, BGU) against jokes. Even Tenn played 3 jokes so far. What this all shows is that we desperately need a playoff system for college so these great teams will not be so afraid of loosing to another great team early in the year. Does anyone really think West Va. and Louisville (both of whom have played absolutely no one and benefit from being the best in a really terrible conference) are top 10 teams? Do you really think they could beat OS, Mich, Wisconsin, ND, USC, Fl, Aub, Tenn, or probably another 10 teams that play real football. Not a chance!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey JJK..the BCS was formed by the major college conferences ....as an independent Notre Dame was a nonfactor in the process and has been a nonfactor in the NC game...Notre Dame is fortunate they are not excluded from the BCS due to their independent status

Hey JJK....Is West Virginia a Top Ten Team ? WVU beat Georgia last year in Bowl Game. Who is Georgia? The same team that in the last 4 years has won 10 or more games, finished in the Top Ten each year, has won 2 SEC Titles , and 3 SEC East Division Titles. The Big East is # 3 in Conference power ranking this year behind PAC 10 and SEC.

Why is Notre Dame not ranked higher? Say ND was in the Big Ten this year.....they have played 4 Big Ten teams. They were killed by Michigan and would suffer same fate to Ohio State. They beat middle of conference PSU and Purdue and almost lost to bottom feeder MSU. Wisconsin and ND are comparable. Wisconsin is 8-1 with only loss to Michigan. What a coincidence!. Where are the Badgers ranked # 17. What...and Notre Dame is complaining about their ranking...how about some cheese with your wine Irish !!!

Hey Steve, you need to get a life. Three posts from 5:25 am to 6:12 am. You must have been sleeping because you missed the point. It's not what you did with last years' team. Who has West Va. beat this year? And Louisville? Conference rankings are a joke AS ARE ALL THE RANKINGS. My point (are you awake now?) is that we need a playoff system exactly so these differences can be settled on the field. Maybe Rutgers is #1. If they are, they should get through a playoff system to prove it, don't you think? Wouldn't that be great for college football? I bet Rutgers would love that opportunity. I'm a big fan of the underdog, but you have to play the big boys to prove you belong. And if you think that ND was a non factor in the establishment of the BCS you must have been living on another planet. Why do you think they get an automatic BCS bid if they are in the top 8 and an at large bid if they are in the top 12? It's about money and power, and ND has both, more so than any other single college football program. You may not like it, but it is a fact. Let's get a playoff system and we will all be happy.
