Rarely does a coach go 10-2 one season and start the next with a 3-1 record and worry about his job--but most coaches aren't trying to build a program within a ten mile radius of the USC Trojans. If UCLA's Karl Dorrell isn't on the proverbial hot seat, he could be by the end of the season.
Dorre;;'s Bruins started well enough with a home win against Utah, then squeaked by Rice before taking a bye. Then they traveled to Washington where conservative play-calling led to a Husky win and the start of a circular firing squad in Westwood.
Internet bloggers are trying to organize a grassroots campaign to toss Dorrell--unless he wins nine games AND defeats USC this season--which will be no easy task with road trips to Eugene, Berkeley and Tempe still on the schedule.
But perhaps the most damning fact for Karl Dorrell is that his greatest supporters...are USC fans. Contract extensions be damned, until Coach Karl can beat the Trojans, he'll never have job security in Westwood.

UCLA football fans are ungrateful. A record like Coach Donnell's is impressive. Just because he hasn't beaten his crosstown rival the USC Trojans doesn't mean to fire him after this year. If he does leave he'll find a coaching job somewhere else and come back to haunt you.

dont think commenter #1 is a UCLA football fan or they would not have gotten the name so wrong. Besides, his record is not impressive and is among the worst ever first 3 years for a UCLA football coach.

Right, and if the fool who made the first comment here actually knew Dorrell's name, maybe we could give that comment some respect. Instead, it just shows how little UCLA fans know about how mediocre the UCLA future is.

Listen up guys, he has a done a pretty decent job overall. The play calling in the Washington game was bad, but we are starting to see his own recruits and do play a pretty tough schedule this year. We'll probally be 8-4 this year and yes it sure would nice to beat USC in football. Its kind of the same as their basketball coach alwasy trying to beat us. GO BRUINS

It is fans like Al Richards who make UCLA football what it is. If sc was not a national power like they are now, Dorrell would be loved, instead of constantly hacked on. Wake up Fellow Bruins, this guy is not going anywhere, tip back a cold one and let it go. You are not that important........

Dorrell and Svoboda - sometimes you don't get more than one shot. I just came from the ND game and feel that my high school coach could have done better. I'm not talking about whether you run three times when you need a first down. I just expect there to be some sort of control. If you are getting paid $190K, as Svoboda is, you should have spent the time during the week to think out what plays you would call in a whole range of situations. Wasting time and timeouts because you can't get a play in is inexcusable. If I performed this way at work, I'd be fired. I'm tired of reading explanations/regrets/excuses. Dorrell and Svoboda both belong coaching skill positions, not making decisions. They are both fine gentlemen but may not be up to the challenges of their current positions

Firing Dorrell is an idea. UCLA first has to commit to paying top dollar for a good coach like most big programs.
