Wearing The Green

...The luck of the Irish. Sure. Let's say you're in a pub somewhere in Ireland, oh, anywhere in Ireland, some guy comes up to you and says, "Hey is that a bomb on you I hear ticking?" And then BAM!!! Your small intestines are on the ceiling and your brains are on your car across the street. That's the luck of the Irish for ya, who's kidding who, okay? Let's talk about the bad luck of the Irish, all right?
There has to be a little of that kind of luck in the Michigan State Spartans. I've never seen anything like it. What an incredible train wreck of a disaster kind of game for Michigan State. A complete 4th quarter meltdown from the entire team.

The funniest and painfully honest moment in the game was when Kirk Herbstreit just said what everyone in the Big 11 seems to have known forever -- I'm going from memory, so if anyone Tivo'd this, feel free to correct me -- "This is what Michigan State does. It's why you never felt a game was out of reach against them." A harsher assessment of a program and its history may never be uttered by a national commenter. He essentially called the MSU program a historical choke.

When John L. Smith gets fired at the end of the season, this will be the game everyone points to. His brainlock in managing the clock, playcalling and keeping his team focused.

Drew Stanton imploded before everyone's eyes. He may be a pro-QB prospect, but there's a lot of Jake Plummer in him. Burning 2 timeouts in the second half because the play wasn't set, came back and cost the team. Trannon stayed invisible other than the dumb unsportsmanlike penalty, and garbage catches when the clock was running out on MSU. He must be the smallest 6' 6" receiver. He can torch a bad MAC team but no one else.

And the defense, good grief, the defense.

I don't feel bad for the MSU team. They got what they deserved. They did it to themselves as much as ND came back on them. I do, however, feel for their fans. Even after the way they beat my Pitt Panthers last week. That was rip-out the heart, stomp it, stick it back in and repeat, horrible.
